Smokey Cauliflower Steaks

Smokey Cauliflower Steaks

Smokey Cauliflower Steaks

I LOVED making these smokey cauliflower steaks. After about a week of just eating the same types of meals I always do for dinner, i really wanted to try something a little bit different. To say that Him-Bivore was a bit skeptical about these would be an understatement, after all, if this experiment didn’t work out we would’ve been eating a slab of dry cauliflower for dinner. Luckily for all those involves though, these were absolutely delicious! They’re nice and easy to make, and don’t require a lot of effort, just a few ingredients you’ve probably got sitting in your kitchen and a cauliflower.

One cauliflower will make 2 steaks and a few extra florets, so you’ll need to adjust the recipe accordingly for how many you need!

Ingredients
  • 1 Cauliflower
  • 2 Tablespoons oil (+1 for frying)
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, peeled
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
Directions
  • Step 1 Remove the leaves from your cauliflower, but leave the stalk, as this will hold the steaks together when you’re cooking them. Cut the cauliflower in half and then, making your steaks about 1 inch thick, cut the steaks from the center size of each half. You’ll get 2 steaks and some leftover florets which you can cook too!
  • Step 2 Grate your ginger on a fine grater and crush your garlic, then mix with the rest of your marinade ingredients.
  • Step 3 Using a brush, coat both sides of your steaks in the marinade and then lay on a papered baking tray.
  • Step 4 Foil the tray and bake for 15 minutes at 180c, then remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, turning halfway through.
  • Step 5 Heat a pan with 1 tablespoon of oil and then fry your steaks for a couple of minute on each side, watching they don’t burn.
  • Step 6 Serve with your favorite accompaniment!
